Seattle Seahawks vs New England Patriots Betting Predictions

Sunday (6:30pm ET) – February 1, 2014
NFL Odds: Patriots -1, Over/Under 48
Expected Weather: 65F Sunny and little wind
Where: Glendale Arizona

The Patriots obliterated the Colts 45-7, in the AFC Championship game and will now make their 8th appearance in the Super bowl. Tying both the Cowboys and Steelers for most all time. The Seahawks made one of the all time great comebacks in the NFC Championship game, trailing 16-0 in the first half to beat the Packers 28-22 in overtime. Seattle is headed to their second-straight Super Bowl after rattling off eight consecutive victories dating back to mid-November. The Seahawks’ 27th ranked passing game is the lowest of any team in NFL history to ever play in the Super Bowl. Seattle is the number one ranked team in the NFL in rushing yards (172.6) per game and the defenses ability to hold offenses to just 185.6 passing yards per game (1st in NFL) make them one of the most well-balanced teams this league has ever seen. It’s a clash between arguably the greatest quarterback of all time going for a fourth ring and maybe the best secondary we have ever seen. Something has to give.

New England Patriots (12-4):

Tom Brady completed 66.2 percent of his passes in the two wins for 628 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions. Rob Gronkowski was held without a catch in the first half against the Colts, but has a combined 10 catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

The defense held Andrew Luck to just 126 yards, two interceptions, and no touchdowns, though Joe Flacco threw for 292 yards, four touchdowns, and two picks in the divisional round. The run defense clamped down, not allowing a run over 20 yards in either game. The Patriots haven’t recorded a postseason sack thus far, but have 11 passes defended, nine quarterback hits, and four interceptions.

Last Time They Played Each other:

The game was on Oct. 14, 2012, in Seattle and the Seahawks, won 24-23. The game ended with Richard Sherman chasing Tom Brady off the field to get a word in. Brady threw two interceptions, one to Sherman and one to Earl Thomas. Neither team rushed for more than 100 yards — Seattle had 85 yards, New England had 87 — but Russell Wilson and Tom Brady combined to throw for 671 yards. Wilson had three touchdown passes and no interceptions.

A great match up. Even if this was just another game during the regular season it would have been the game to watch. The Seahawks got a little lucky against the Packers. It was a great come back but if the Packers hadn’t been so conservative in the second half or if they had won the coin toss, it could easily be Green Bay in the Super Bowl. The Patriots had an easy game against an over matched Colts team.

The Super Bowl will match a top offense against a top defense. The last time these two teams played each other it was a one point win for Seattle in Seattle. This time there will be no home field advantage for the Seahawks and they will come up short against Brady. These two teams have patterns that can be taken advantage of for more than just side and total bets. We will be releasing our prop bets and live betting strategy later this week.

The Patriots are a faster starting team than the Seahawks. Seattle tends to wear teams down and open up the passing game in the second half. Look for the Patriots to remain true to form and come out with a few new “legal” plays to take advantage of the Seahawks early. The Patriots will have a tough time in the red zone against the physical Seattle secondary and will settle for a couple of short field goals in the first half. The Seahawks were abysmal against Green Bay last week. There is no reason to expect more from them against New England in the first half and I have them settling for a couple of field goals in the first half.

The second half will have the Seahawks pound away at New England and get the game to one touchdown in the third quarter. At the end of the 3rd quarter I have the score Patriots 20 – Seahawks 13. Going to the fourth quarter we will have a violent chess match. Both teams will be punting but the difference this week over the NFC Championship game is the the Patriots won’t go into a shell. Look for Brady to make the play needed to put the Pats up by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks will anser as Wilson and Lynch just beat down the Patriots defense for a late fourth quarter touchdown and a Patriots lead of 27 – 20. With a couple of minutes left in the game the Seahawks will kick off to the Patriots and that will be the game as Brady hits a few short passes to get a first down and run out the clock.
