Los Angeles Chargers Betting Preview
The Chargers have gone 9-1 over their last 10 games and look like they are finally going to make the playoffs. They are dealing with injuries at the running back position, making it more likely they will need to lean on Philip Rivers. Rivers had his streak of 12 straight games with multiple touchdowns broken against the Bengals and he threw for only 220 yards as the Chargers were definitely looking ahead to this game. At running back Melvin Gordon is questionable and Austin Ekeler is out. Rookies Justin Jackson and Detrez Newsome will share time if Gordon does not play. If Gordon plays then I am all over him for rushing and receiving yards. However, if Gordon is out then I like Jackson to get most of the touches. At receiver, Keenan Allen had a 5 catch for 78 yards performance on 9 targets last week. Mike Williams, Tyrell Williams and Travis Benjamin share the remainder of the targets and all should see at least 4 each in this game with Williams to benefit most in a shootout.
The Chargers can also clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Chiefs.
Chargers Prop Bet Picks
Total Receiving Yards – Keenan Allen (LAC) OVER 89.5 (-150)
Total Receiving Yards – Tyrell Williams (LAC) OVER 36.5 (-145)
Total Passing Yards – Philip Rivers (LAC) OVER 294.5 (-140)
Total Touchdown Passes – Philip Rivers (LAC) OVER 2.5 (+125)
Total Completions – Philip Rivers (LAC) OVER 24.5 (-125)
Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City won 27-24 in overtime against the Ravens. Patrick Mahomes had two touchdowns and 377 yards against one of the leagues better defenses. At running back the loss of Hunt did show a little but Spencer Ware had 75 yards on 15 carries with five receptions for 54 yards. Ware is questionable and if he does not play then Damian Williams will play and should benefit from a wide open offense. The big question is Tyreek Hill. Against a very good Ravens defense he had 8 catches for 139 yards. If he is out then then expect even more targets for Travis Kelce. Kelce has caught seven touchdowns over his last six games and I like him for one no matter who starts. More playing time questions for Sammy Watkins and Kelvin Benjamin. Both didn’t play last week, which allowed Chris Conley to play the whole game. The Chiefs will need to throw the ball to win and there will be a cascading effect on targets depending on who is going to play.
Star safety Eric Berry (heel) is expected to make his season debut against the Chargers. His return will provide a huge boost to a Chiefs secondary that has struggled throughout the year.
Chiefs Prop Bet Picks
Total Receiving Yards – Travis Kelce (KC) 85.5 OVER (-105)
Total Receptions – Chris Conley (KC) OVER 3 (-115)
Total Passing Yards – Patrick Mahomes II (KC) OVER 320.5 (-115)
Chargers vs Chiefs Betting Prediction:
This should be one of the top games of the season. Both teams can score and the division opponents both look like they are going to make the playoffs. The Chargers have always been a team that finds a way to blow it. The big question on this game is the injury bug. Top skill talent may not play and that will change the game plans. The two most important names to watch are Tyreek Hill and Melvin Gordon.
Melvin Gordon out and Tyreek Hill will play.
Betting Pick: OVER 54.5
The Chargers & Chiefs will both score over 24 points with the winner needing over 30 to secure the victory.
