Bears vs Lions Betting Preview

The Chicago Bears (4-9) quarterback Mitchell Trubisky had the best game of the season, completing 25 of 32 passes for 271 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. It really helps a young quarterback to have a solid running game and Jordan Howard ran for 147 yards and a pair of TDs against the Bengals last week as the Bears had their best offensive showing of the season. The Detroit Lions (7-6) quarterback Matthew Stafford might have to run for his life with all of the injuries to the offensive line as guard T.J. Lang (foot), center Travis Swanson (concussion) and tackle Rick Wagner (ankle) are all questionable. While I expect them to play they are still injured and that will shorten the time that Stafford has to hold onto the ball. Both teams have good offensive matchups in this game and both should be able to exploit them.

Bears vs Lions Prop Betting Preview

Chicago Bears

At quarterback Mitchell Trubisky had his best game last week and the Bears offense played its best all-around game of the season. He showed his running potential with a rushing touchdown passed for 270 yard day. The Bears Jordan Howard is capable of putting up big numbers as long as the Bears do not fall to far behind. Last week he had a 23 carry, 147 yard, two touchdown game. The downside for Howard is that he is not a good receiver so if the Bears are down a couple of touchdowns in the second half he will not get the touches. The Chicago Bears receiver Kendall Wright had a big day last week with 10 receptions for 107 yards on 11 targets. Tight end Adam Shaheen had a 4 reception, 44 yard and a touchdown the Bengals. However, he still played on 42% of the snaps so do not expect another good day from him. The Bears offense is looking better and they do have a good matchup for Howard as long as they do not fall far behind. I have the Bears staying in the game and getting some good offensive performances from the quarterback and running back positions. At receiver I think the ball will be spread around so that no one receiver has a big day but all of them are involved in the action.

Detroit Lions

Detroit qarterback Matthew Stafford was at less than 100% last week with his injured hand. However, he passed for 381 yards on 36 of 44 passes in the overtime win over Tampa Bay. He did throw a pair of interceptions so his accuracy may be degraded a little but there is no reason to doubt him being able to put up big numbers again this week. At running backs Ameer Abdullah did not play last week and that was a coaches decision. I like Theo Riddick to be the primary back again this week despite his 2.9 yards per carry last week as hit fits better in the offense that the Lions like to run. The Lions are a pass first offense and Theo is a much better receiving back. The Lions are putting up big numbers and will continue to get a lot of targets the rest of the season. Both Golden Tate and Marvin Jones will get 8+ targets this week and there will still be some available for Ebron who had 10 catches for 94 yards last week.

Both teams are in good shape to run the offense they want. The Lions have been poor stopping the run and the Bears have not been very good at stopping wideouts.

Bears vs Lions Betting Prediction

This game will actually be a good one to watch if you like close games. Jordan Howard should have a 100+ yard day and at least one touchdown. This will open up the passing game and should keep the Bears in the game until the last minute. On the Lions side, Stafford will put up big numbers again as the Lions just can not run the ball successfully enough to win games. I like both the Bears and the over.

Betting Picks: Bears +5 and Over 44
Score Predictions:
Lions 27 – Bears 24
