This could be a real boring game with two teams that had terrible offenses in week one. Houston benched starter Tom Savage at halftime in favor of rookie first-round pick Deshaun Watson and Cincinnati which was shut out (20-0 by Baltimore) at home for the first time since 2001. The Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton matched a career worst with four interceptions and committed five turnovers.
Reports out of Houston indicate that Watson, who guided Clemson to the national championship in January, will be under center for Thursday’s matchup if he is not hindered by an ankle injury during Tuesday’s practice. Watson was 12 of 23 for 102 yards with one touchdown and one interception. However, the line is still missing left tackle Duane Brown (contract holdout) and will be without guard Jeff Allen. So whoever is playing quarterback should be ready run. If you remember what happened to Derek Carr’s older brother then you have an idea what is happening in Houston.
The Texans will play a Bengals defense allowed a total of 268 yards (157 rushing) to the Ravens. The Bengals offense looked bad all around last week. They couldn’t run or pass. I can’t see them making great strides this week and maybe they won’t need to as the defense can carry this team against a weak Texan’s offense.
In the end I have Cinci using a grind it out strategy. They will get a lead and then be able to take shots downfield to AJ Green. Not a lot of scoring but the Bengals should have the ball for most of the game and will pile up the yards.
