2017 Los Angeles Rams Futures Prediction
The Rams get a new Head Coach
Sean McVay, the 31-year-old former offensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins is the youngest head coach in league history. He takes over a Rams team that hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2004 and hasn’t had a winning record since 2003. In 2017 the Rams will start Jared Goff at quarterback. Last year the rookie struggled at times during his seven starts, throwing seven interceptions and five touchdown passes. Los Angeles made a big acquisition in getting Sammy Watkins from the Buffalo Bills. If he can stay healthy then the Rams will have the type of number one receiver they haven’t had in years. However, the healthy part is a big if. Running back Todd Gurley will need to bounce back from a sub-par 2016 season where he rushed for 885 yards (3.2 yards per carry) compared to (1,106 yards) in 2015.
New Defensive Coordinator
Longtime NFL coach Wade Phillips was brought in to take over the defense. Phillips built the Denver Broncos’ defense into a top-five unit in each of his three years and helped lead that team to a championship in Super Bowl 50. The Rams have some decent talent on defense and Wade should be able to improve over last years numbers. I can see them finishing as a top 10 defense if the offense is effective and keep them in games.
Los Angeles Rams Futures Odds “Over/Under” 5.5 Wins
It’s hard to imagine the Rams not improving on their four-win campaign from last year. The quarterback is the big uncertainty. Will he be make some big improvements over last year? Will Todd Gurley be last years or the 2015 Gurley? The receiving corps was one of the worst in the league before the Watkins trade. If he stays healthy the combo of Gurley running and Watkins deep speed could really change this offense..
The start is going to be important for the Rams. Before the bye they have competitive games against the Colts, Redskins, 49ers and, Jaguars.
