Saints vs Rams Game Betting Preview

Two teams that were not supposed to contend this season and who are both leading their division will face off in Los Angeles on Sunday. The NFC West leading Rams lost on the road last week in Minnesota (24-7) but still have full control of their division. Again this week the Rams will face off against a highly rated defense in the Saints who have held six of eight opponents to 20 or fewer points. However, the Saints injuries to the defense are starting to add up and they will be without defensive end Alex Okafor for the rest of the season after suffering an Achilles injury in last week’s 34-31 win over Washington.

New Orleans Saints (8-2):

The Saints offense is averaging 30.2 points per game which is third in the NFL. The big difference this year is the Saints are doing it with the running game instead of quarterback Drew Brees and the passing game. Running backs Mark Ingram and rookie Alvin Kamara have been the best combo in the NFL this season. Ingram was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week with 134 yards on just 11 carries in last week’s win and is over 1,000 yards from scrimmage on the season (806 rushing, 213 receiving). Kamara will be over 1,000 yards soon as he has (459 rushing, 447 receiving) and scored at least one TD in each of the last four games.

Los Angeles Rams (7-3):

The Rams are the second ranked scoring offense in the NFL at 30.3 points per game. However, they will be without top wide receiver Robert Woods for the next couple of games due to a shoulder injury. Jared Goff will need rookie wide receiver Cooper Kupp who is second on the team with 481 receiving yards to pick up his game. The guy to watch is wide receiver Sammy Watkins (408 yards, four TDs) as the Rams will now get a chance to see if he was worth the trade they made for him with Buffalo. Of course Todd Gurley will get plenty of touches against a Saints defense that can be run on but with the loss of Woods he will also be in a position to get a few more targets in the passing game.

Saints vs Rams Player Prop Bet Preview

New Orleans Saints

The Rams defense showed some cracks against the Vikings last week and Drew Brees can still take over the offense when he needs to. Even with some big plays given up last week the Rams still rank third in the league in DVOA against the pass.
The place to attack the Rams this year has been on the ground as the Rams have allowed ten rushing touchdowns this season along with an average of 123 rushing yards per game. That has to make BOTH running backs good plays this week to get plenty of yards. I know the hard part is trying to decide who (Ingram or Kamara) will get the big yardage but at least one will so taking both can provide a floor on your prop bets. New Orleans will likely rely on their running game once again this week, as that has been the primary catalyst to their current eight game winning streak. With the running backs not only a vital part of the running game but also part of the passing game that doesn’t leave many touches for the other receivers. Thomas has been getting good targets but just hasn’t been very productive with them. I like Ted Gin jr. to be in a good spot to get deep in this game as the Rams will need to crowd the line to try and stop the run.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams had a down offensive week at Minnesota but this is a that can score and I like the offense to bounce back this week. The Saints have posted solid pass defense numbers this year, but injuries are starting to take a toll on them. One that may go under the radar is CB Marshon Lattimore. He has been a top defender for the Saints and will be out this week and that will open up the Rams outside passing game. In fact it looks like both starting corner backs will be out for the game and if that happens then Goff will have plenty of open targets Sunday. If Goff is passing that really doesn’t take to much away from running back Todd Gurley as he is also a vital part of the passing game. However, the Saints have struggled stopping the run and Gurley should see a lot of touches running the ball too. At wide receiver is this finally the week Sammy Watkins has a breakout?. If Watkins can’t hit a few big plays against backup CB’s then maybe he is just not going to be anything more than a speed guy. The other wide receiver to look at is Cooper Kupp who has been an inconsistent rookie but will get several more targets with wide receiver Robert Woods out.

Saints vs Rams Game Betting Prediction

With last weeks low score and wide receiver Robert Woods out it might not seem like a good time for the Rams offense but the Saints injuries are just what they needed. To tell you the truth I haven’t been all that impressed with the Saints defense even before the injuries and I liked the Rams to be able to pick up yards both on the ground and in the air. Goff and Gurely will both have big days. On the other side, the Saints will be able to move the ball on the Rams and Drew Brees might not be the quarterback he was 10 years ago but he is still capable of lighting it up when he has to. I like this game to go over the total and I will be taking the Rams as long as I get them at 2.5 or less. If it goes to three points then no side bet.
